OUR APPROACH

At Syzygy, we approach therapy holistically by supporting you with mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual matters.

Through the exploration and integration of our human experience through the mind, our physical body, and creative spirit, we shift into alignment with the natural world.

Creating Access to Care and Inclusive Support

We acknowledge that mental wellness is a result of many resources including, but not limited to therapy. We acknowledge your unique social-cultural factors such as health, employment status, income, physical body, immigration status, sexuality, gender, work-life balance, ancestral background, social supports, and stress management tools which may impact your mental health, and capacity to recover. We intend to create a space of belonging for anyone who is seeking therapy services. We understand that the current state of the healthcare system does not adequately meet the needs of many. We intend to provide services that address the inadequacies within the healthcare system through acknowledging your lived experiences, as well as offering some sliding scale spaces in our practice for those who can’t access insurance to help pay for therapy (check provider’s page for details).

Mindfulness, Somatic Therapy, and Movement

We offer an alternative to traditional talk therapy so you can cultivate new ways of being in connection to your experience. We believe in working from a bottom-up approach, that is through the somatic intelligence and wisdom of our bodies, rather than overthinking and problem solving with the mind. By learning to listen to the subtleties of our inner experience, we make room for our inner healing intelligence to emerge. This process can allow us to become less reactive and more understanding of the different aspects of ourselves so that they can be seen and liberated. Through mindful attention we can experience our emotions, thoughts, discomfort, and past pain with less reactivity and more nuance and compassion. Our practitioners are trained in somatic therapy using the Hakomi method, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, EMDR, Internalized Family Systems (IFS), group work, trauma-informed yoga, and more.

Strengths Based Therapy

Our intention is to highlight your innate resilience and resources to empower you. We help support you in leveraging the resources that are already working in your life as you set new goals and work through existing challenges. We do not believe that you are “broken” or need to be “fixed” in some way. All of us are already whole, and therapy is a way to return to that knowing. We know that the key to your recovery is already within you, although current coping strategies may obscure it. We know that if we approach each client with compassion and curiosity, you will find your unique path forward.

Play, Creativity and Neuroscience

We intend to create a warm, safe, accepting environment for all people to explore their authentic selves in a welcoming and playful therapeutic container. We understand from research that when we take a playful approach towards behavior change, internal shifts can happen at a much faster rate. “Play is the portal to plasticity,” states Dr. Andrew Huberman. “Play is not just about having fun. Play is about testing, experimenting, and expanding your brain’s capacity in early development and throughout the life span… Play allows you expand the number of outcomes you are willing to entertain and how you relate to those outcomes.” We incorporate play in 1:1 therapy, group therapy, and couple’s therapy. Our providers employ creative approaches to therapy by utilizing expressive arts interventions, music, psychodrama, reenactments, and more to help you thrive.

Including the Transpersonal

We provide holistic wellness through a transpersonal lens. At Syzygy we honor the full range of your human experience, from the experience of everyday waking reality to dreamwork to the most abstract of spiritual phenomenon - with the belief that any experience is to be appreciated as a gift to unravel curiously. We accept you as you are.

Treatment with an outcome

Therapy does not need to last forever. We understand the importance of identifying and moving towards goals so that you can exit therapy with integrity, strength, and purpose. We offer groups so that clients can transition into community as individual therapy naturally finds closure.

Embody

Your body holds your emotional history, and the key to unlocking your truth. We store our unprocessed emotions in our body, and when they are ignored and suppressed, they only become stronger and lead to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, emotional disturbances, and more. By understanding the language of the body, and befriending your emotions, you can open a gateway to profound transformation. When you embody your story, you may find that there’s much to explore beyond just words and intellect. The body is the initial access point to living in greater alignment with yourself and accessing your aliveness.

We take a bottom-up approach by emphasizing the importance of learning the language of our nervous system and finding ways to feel, process, and heal stuck emotions in the body. Our providers are all trained in a variety of trauma-informed somatic modalities that are blended seamlessly together to create a fully integrative and unique experience for you. Our current offerings that support you somatically are Hakomi, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, breath-work, yoga, nutrition support, and medication management

Deepen

Once you have established an understanding of your body, you can go deeper in the healing process by accessing the parts of yourself that have yet to be seen, digested, and integrated. By reconnecting to what is hidden in the shadows, you can find the roots of your suffering and restore a sense of equilibrium to your inner life.

Neuroscience has discovered that we only have conscious access to about 5% of our cognitive activity. That leaves us with 95% of our inner workings occurring in the unconscious mind, which dictates most of our decisions, actions, behaviors, and emotions. With so much of our unconscious hidden from view, its easy to be dragged around by its mysterious undertow.

At Syzygy we utilize modalities that access the unconscious, so you will become more aware of your patterns, your parts, your behaviors, how you respond to emotions, and find ways to unburden the unresolved aspects of yourself.

Non-ordinary states of consciousness (NOSC) such as meditative, psychedelic, ecstatic and trance states are catalysts for transformation, as they allow you to embody your experience in ineffable ways, and access your unconscious material by bypassing the intellectual and analytical mind.

Our providers are trained in a variety of mindfulness-based therapies that evoke NOSC like IFS, Hakomi, EMDR, Gestalt, Dream work, Psychedelic Therapy, Experiential Art Therapy, and more. Through integration with the unconscious, you can forge a new path forward with lasting change in your behavior, emotions and relationships.

Connect

Human beings cannot heal in isolation. Community support is essential to our wellness.

We are all part of an interconnected web of life that links us to one another. When we look more closely, we will find that all perceived issues are rooted in relational dynamics. One human’s struggle isn’t a fault in the individual, but rather a ricochet of patterns created by cultural influences, family of origin, community, ancestral lineage, and unique events that mark our lives.

When we connect with other people who are committed to their personal growth we can deepen our relational healing capacity.

Syzygy offers group therapy support to help assist with community building and skills integration within a safe, warm, welcoming, and playful therapeutic container.

Syzygy also offers relational therapy for couples, families, and relationships. Our licensed Marriage and Family therapists utilize an attachment lens and somatic therapy techniques to support balance and growth. Through relational therapy, you will discover more about yourself, deepen your connection, understand your loved one(s) better, and increase secure attachment in your relationship.

*Groups are for current clients only through referral of their provider, or individuals can be referred by a known therapist outside of the collective with a signed ROI.
